Youth Allowance is a payment which assists families by encouraging and supporting young people to study, train or look for work.
To be eligible for Youth Allowance a person must be:
- a full-time student or apprentice age 16-24 (or age 25+ if received YA just before 25th birthday and still studying same course or same apprenticeship)
- under age 22 and looking for work (can be studying as well)
- under age 22 and temporarily incapacitated so unable to work or study
Other work activity and residency criteria may be required to be met.
